 Wilfred Thomas (Tom) Lewthwaite, age 53 of 105 Sharon Dr., Americus, Georgia died unexpectedly at his residence shortly before midnight on Sunday, July 23, 1995. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, in the chapel of Hancock Funeral home, with interment following at Andersonville National Historic Site, Andersonville, GA. The Rev. John Clements officiated.

Mr. Lewthwaite was born Feb. 27, 1942 in Port Huron, Michigan, a son of the late James A Lewthwaite and Alice Doan Lewthwaite. Mr. Lewthwaite served four years active duty with the United States Marine Corp, Camp Pendleton, California following his graduation from Port Huron High School in 1961. He was married to Wenola Hamm, also a 1961 graduate of Port Huron High School.

Mr. Lewthwaite was owner of Southwest Radiator Service in Americus,GA and was a member of Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Wenola Hamm Lewthwaite, a son and daughter-in-law, Gerald J and Rhonda Lewthwaite, a daughter and son-in-law, Tanya M and Alan White; three grandsons, Timothy White, Levi Lewthwaite and Hunter Lewthwaite; one granddaughter, Tasha White all of Americus; two brothers, Jim (Della) Lewthwaite of Riverview, Florida and Jack Lewthwaite of Crossville, Tennessee; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Milton and Mildred Hamm of Americus; several nieces and nephews.

I'm adding the following comment to Tom's obituary from his son Gerald on Father's Day 2016.........

"I loved him and still miss him very much. He was the greatest man I knew.  He was my hero."
