Gerald Richard Grimes 74, of Avoca, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, September 6, 2016, in Iowa.
He was born in Buel Township, January 25, 1942, the son of the late Charles and Julia (Mullin) Grimes.
His marriage to Celeste Rosaline Pilon was February 21, 1981, in Yale.
Gerry proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps with the Pepsi Cola Squadron 542 from 1961 to 1965.
Gerry worked as a conductor with CN Railroad for 26 years before his retirement in 1995. He was a gun and coin collector and enjoyed classic cars, including his beloved 1961 Chevrolet Impala. Gerry liked going to auctions and casinos and loved animals.
Surviving in addition to Celeste, his wife of 35 years, are three siblings, Ken Grimes of Texas, Chuck Grimes of Albion and Deloris Brackenberry of Port Huron; special nieces Belinda and Tammy; aunts, Doris Thomson of Port Huron and Gerry Seibert of FL; mother-in-law, Mrs. Betty Pilon of Yale; brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Jan Pilon; sister-in-law, Lisa (Don Shannon) Pilon, all of Avoca; lifelong friends, Bud and Audrey Sandoval as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by a brother, Eugene; sister, Juanita and father-in-law, Roger Pilon.
Pall bearers will be his beloved nephews, Chuckie Grimes, Roger, Matthew, Eric and Thomas Pilon, Justin Cichocki and Chris Claramunt.
