John Dohn was my very first friend. Before Kindergarten, we both lived on Minnie Street about a block apart. We would visit each other's homes, ride tricycles and play together. We attended Roosevelt Elementary, Washington Jr. High and PHHS together.

John was the big football end player. Scored a number of points for the Big Reds. We had quite good football teams at the time. In the spring, he did the shot put, discus, hammer-throw and javelin. He landed a football scholarship at Michigan. Joined a jock fraternity. Took a number of jock courses (not a good idea.) He got virtually no playing time - with such a huge team. He transferred to University of Maryland on another football scholarship, and got his degree.

He had summer jobs with Minnie's Meat Market - wholesale meat deliveries, and with Tim Sheldon, as a night watchman on the I-94 Kimball Twp expressway construction project. After college, he was in sales with a SEC info expediting company in MD. It would copy daily SEC filings and send them overnight to financial institution customers. A fairly big business back then.

"Private Eye" (a free peoplefinder) shows John C. Dohn, Phoenix: Anne H. Dohn; Amelia Marie Dohn; and Ruben H. Dohn. "Marie" was his Mom's name.

John and I became best friends in High school. He lived on Minnie street and he and I would walk to school from my house quite often. I wish I could remember his sister's married name, her name is Linda and married a guy from P.H> named Steve something. After High School John and I both attended U of M and were luckey enough to be roommates at South Quad. He was in the football program and I was enrolled and played in the Marching band....John you're sorely missed by me.
