In grade school, Jim lived a block north of us, first on Holland, by the beach, then on Lakeside Court. He was a latchkey kid. I think his sister was Judy, a girl scout in my sister's troop. We did bike riding, horseback riding and running around in the Armour Street woods. The woods had 100 foot high big wild grape vines. We would swing them around - Tarzan style. The horse place was a falling down barn behind Asman's greenhouse. Usually five horses. About $1.00 for an hour ride around the streets and woods. Lots of fun.

Jim's neighbor was Mrs. Pilkey, about age 80. She could hardly see or hear, but she drove her ancient car around the streets at about five miles an hour. When you saw her coming, you ran way back. She often drove several yards off the street, over lawns and sidewalks, never stopping. Way out. She did that for years. No one ever was able to take her keys away.
